A Heartfelt Farewell to Hardrock Nunawading

Dear Hardrock Community,

It is with heavy hearts that we share some bittersweet news: Hardrock Nunawading will be closing permanently, as the site has been sold for redevelopment. While we’re saddened to say goodbye to a place that has held so many climbs, laughs, challenges, and memories, we want to take a moment to thank each of you for being such an important part of this community.

In 1993 Hardrock was established in Nunawading, the first of its kind in Australia. Engaging people in a unique and positive physical activity was the mission, providing the opportunity to explore an alternative sport for those who don’t find a connection with the more traditional sports. We are extremely proud to have seen countless people from all walks of life find their calling on our humble walls, and flourish beyond their time with us.

Hardrock Nunawading has been shaped by the energy and enthusiasm of our climbing community over the past 30+ years, and together you’ve helped make this gym more than just a venue—you’ve made it a home.

The spirit of our community lives on at the Hardrock CBD venue, and there’s some good news on the convenience front: a brand-new train station (State Library Station) is now right at our doorstep, making the trip into the city easier than ever.

Our last day of trade at Nunawading is Friday the 19th of December, so please make the most of it and join us between now and then for final climbs before these iconic walls are dismantled for the last time.

While this transition is emotional for all of us, we hope you’ll continue climbing with us as we carry the Nunawading legacy forward.

Thank you, truly and wholeheartedly, for being part of the Hardrock Nunawading family.

With gratitude and warm regards,
The Hardrock Team
