Franklin Street Reopen!

Franklin Street Reopen!

Franklin Street has reopened to traffic, pedestrians and cyclists after more than 7 years of Metro Tunnel works to build the new State Library Station.

It was the first road to shut at the beginning of Metro Tunnel construction. Now it’s home to a brand-new entrance to State Library Station, between RMIT and Melbourne City Baths, right across the road from Hardrock.

The street has been redesigned as a pedestrian promenade with a widened southern footpath and areas for seating, gardens and public art. The Franklin Street entrance to State Library Station is fully accessible, with lifts and escalators taking passengers to the concourse and platforms. From there, you’ll be able to catch services on the Sunbury, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines once the Metro Tunnel opens later this year. This is a very convenient stop just meters from our front entrance if you are catching public transport in to Hardrock for a climb.

We are super excited about this as it means that the flow of traffic can move more freely around the area, the building is more easily accessible for our patrons, there is more street parking available, and no more construction noise from the street! And most importantly? We have our glorious city views back!
